Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI)
As per Arkansas Code Annotated § 6-10-127 a district may apply for up to 10 days of AMI for the use of alternative methods of instruction, including [remote] learning, on days when the district is closed due to exceptional or emergency circumstances such as inclement weather, contagious disease outbreak, utility outage, and other acts of God.
Elkins School District utilizes two types of AMI Days: 1) AMI - Inclement Weather (typically known as “Snow Days”) and 2) AMI - Pivot to Virtual Learning.
On both types of AMI days, students will use their Chromebooks to access lessons posted in Google Classroom or complete paper packets if teachers were notified of unreliable Internet service. Teachers will also be available by email, Google Classroom, and the Remind App from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each school day.
On AMI – Pivot to Virtual Learning days teachers will also have Google Meet times posted in Google Classroom for students to join to ask for help and meet if needed. Google Meet times will be based on a student’s grade or course (refer to AMI – Pivot to Virtual Learning Expectations for the schedule).
