What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overreact or become overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

Our goal is to support the emotional well-being of families by addressing the needs of the whole family.   We want to help provide information and resources for families in need.


Elkins Schools are proud to be a part of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement.  The Formula for Choosing Love can be used by anyone, at any time, to manage their response to any situation.

Self-Compassion tipsTip
Self-compassion involves three things – self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness. This week’s tip focuses on the first step- being kind to yourself. 

Try This
1)  Watch and listen to how you talk to yourself and what you say. 
2)  Press the mute button on your inner critic.
3)  Turn up the volume of your inner-appreciator.

Why It Works
You’ll feel better. And as you feel better others will feel better.
You’ll show others how you treat yourself
You’ll show others to treat you.
You’ll show others how to treat themselves.
Your children will learn how to treat themselves by watching how you treat yourself.
As you feel better, others will feel better.  Research from Tufts Positive Deviance Collaborative shows emotions have positive contagion.
